Why is it worth it for me to go to college?

Andre
You know, Jonathan, I used to wonder if going to college was really worth it. It seemed like a lot of money and time.
I get it. But now that we’re in college, it’s easy to see the difference. We’re building something that can really change our futures.
Andre
For sure. One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that a college degree can help you get better jobs. A lot of the jobs I wanted before required a degree—no degree, no chance.
And it’s not just getting a job—it’s getting one that pays more, has benefits like health insurance, and gives you chances to grow. That’s what college helps with.
Andre
Right. And I’ve noticed people who graduate from college often have more choices—where to live, what kind of work to do, and even how to manage their money. That’s what people mean by economic mobility: moving up and having options.
Exactly. And don’t forget the people you meet. Professors, classmates, mentors—they become part of your network. Some of them already helped me get an internship, and that could lead to my first full-time job.
Andre
Same here. I got connected to a career counselor who introduced me to a local veteran-friendly employer. That never would’ve happened without college.
But here’s something we always tell people: not all colleges and not all degrees are the same.
Andre
Totally. You have to choose wisely. Some schools support students better, help them find internships, and have good career services. And some degrees lead to jobs that pay a lot more than others.
So if someone asks, “Is college worth it?”—I’d say, yes, but only if you do your homework. Look into what the school offers, make sure the major leads to solid jobs, and ask about support services.
Andre
Because when you choose the right path, college gives you a lot: higher income, better job security, a strong network, and a better shot at building the life you want.
That’s what makes it worth it.
