Who can guide and assist me through the process?

Maria
Hey Jonathan, remember when we were visiting colleges? I met some really nice students and professors. That helped a lot.
Yeah, me too! Talking to other students is helpful—but if you want to make a smart decision about college, you also need to talk to the offices that actually help you plan your future.
Maria
Like which offices?
Let’s start with the Admissions Office. They explain how to apply, what documents you need, and what they look for in students. I asked them about deadlines, programs, and even what kind of students usually do well there.
Maria
Yes! And I talked to the Financial Aid Office. They helped me understand how much everything costs and what kinds of scholarships or grants I could apply for. They also explained what FAFSA is and how to fill it out.
Don’t forget the Career Services Office. They’re the ones who help you find jobs and internships while you’re in college—and even after you graduate. I asked them where students in my major usually get jobs and if they help with resumes.
Maria
Good one! Another office I liked was the Registrar’s Office. They’re the ones who check your past classes and tell you what credits can transfer. That really helped me save time since I didn’t have to retake some classes I already passed.
Exactly! And if you’re the first in your family to go to college—like me—you should also ask if the school has a special program or office that works with first-generation students. I met a staff member who gave me tips on where to get help and how to feel more confident on campus.
Maria
That’s so important. There are also people who work in student support programs—they help with tutoring, mentoring, and even adjusting to college life. I didn’t even know about them until I asked!

And if you’re coming from another country, be sure to visit the International Students Office. They can give you clear information about visas, tuition costs, taxes, and other important topics you need to understand before starting college.

So if you’re thinking about college, visit these offices. They’re the ones who will help you plan your path and make sure the college is the right fit for you.

Now that you’ve learned about who can guide and assist you through the process, it’s time to explore why it’s worth it to go to college.
